Late To The Party

That the goblins want some goblin kids is not actually a valid excuse for why a tv show would feature graphic rape scenes in the first place.

It is a valid excuse because that is the established biology in the Goblin Slayer universe. The graphic rape scene isn’t graphic as it didn’t even show it visually.

Yes a creator has to establish the rules of their fiction towards the beginning of the story and stay internally consistent with them for the story to be good. But none of that is relevant to a criticism of a creator coming up with badly conceived rules in the first place

You say the rules are badly conceived, but you never get around to explaining how they are bad. This sounds more like “I don’t like thing and how dare you like thing!”

Leia being able to drag herself out of space in The Last Jedi is no different story-wise than Luke pulling off his “impossible/1 in a million shot” in New Hope

Luke had mentorship from Obi Wan. In contrast, Leia has not been shown to actually gotten any mentorship on The Force. That is why Luke’s feats are more believable and Leia’s hamfisted dragging herself out of space scene.

And likewise, the Thermian argument could apply here; someone trying to justify the Japanese character would say, “Oh, the buck teeth and bad eyesight are genetics, and his accent is the product of his upbringing, nothing racist here!”

So the Thermian argument is real because thought crimes? The reason why people would have a problem with unflattering depictions of Asian men is because the authors say that they based it on their knowledge of what Asian men look like. As a result, the root problem isn’t even diegetically related. The root issue would be the authors’ preconceptions and stereotypes.

Meanwhile, we see no such type of issue from Goblin Slayer. The content isn’t based off the author’s false preconceptions. A female character got raped. Why did that happen? Because in that universe, the goblins do that to procreate and strengthen their numbers. The way the rape scene was depicted was to show the terror and weight of what would happen if things go wrong for female adventurers. It’s basically a “life isn’t fair” moment that the protagonist had to acknowledge and as a result, grow from that experience.

Dan didn’t poison the well, he simple used an extreme example to illustrate the problem as obviously as possible. The game handle “Angry Gamemasher” is itself a joke name, but also one not dissimilar to those used by actual game reviewers and message board users.

So… he actually did poison the well. Yeah, I don’t buy the “It’s just a joke, bro!” ‘argument’.

You’ve also dismantled your refutation by describing Dan’s example as “extreme”. If his argument is dependent on extreme, non-representative examples, then he is basing his conclusions off of a ridiculously skewed sample and one in which he fabricated instead of citing common arguments actually made by real people.
